Metaphors vs. The Obvious

Sometimes an idea makes perfect sense until you see the end result. Great in theory, but not in practice.

These bottles of distilled water are a good example. I’m sure the person or team that came up with the design on the left had a perfectly valid rationale. Most water bottles are clear or blue, so green will stand out on the shelf! Green is the colour of nature! It will look more “organic”! That makes all kind of sense… until you look at them side by side:

There’s a reason why no one uses hazy green containers for water – it looks like it’s full of algae. The blue bottle looks so clean and crisp in comparison. Yes, everyone else’s bottle is blue too. But it works.
